Scientific Test Results
Earth Saver® Rice Straw Wattles are the premiere wattles available on the market today and the only successfully tested wattles in the industry. Scientists at the San Diego State University Soil Erosion Research Laboratory recently conducted a study to test the effectiveness of EARTHSAVERS wattles to reduce runoff and control erosion, using simulated rainfall conditions.

Highlights of the scientific test results include:

  • EARTHSAVERS Rice Straw Wattles dramatically reduce downslope sediment delivery — by 58%.
  • EARTHSAVERS wattles reduce runoff amounts by absorbing an average of 11% more water runoff compared to bare soil control within their fibrous core, which is beneficial for slope stability and revegetation
  • EARTHSAVERS wattles reduce runoff water velocities and release water at a steady rate.

Based on the test results, the scientists concluded that using EARTHSAVERS wattles in combination with other surface treatments such as trackwalking can enhance the overall effectiveness of a soil erosion control program.
